Brussels, November 21st, 2017 – Performance marketing enterprise EVO Group announced the acquisition of digital creative bureau One Million Dollars (also referred to as 1MD). EVO Group and 1MD had collaborated on several occasions in the past and decided to unite and join forces. This acquisition is a major milestone for both companies, in line with their proper growth and expansion objectives.
Last Thursday, October 19, 2017 in the Wolubilis event hall in Brussels, EVO Group sponsored an exclusive screening of the the cutting-edge documentary Design Disruptors (watch the trailer here) with flupa, the French-speaking Association for User eXperience Professionals.
This screening of the documentary, produced by Design mogul InVision, contains testimonials and interviews of product designers at Pinterest, Netflix, Google and others, and invites the viewer to reflect on the importance of Design as a business.
We decided to sponsor this event to give our clients the opportunity to experience the documentary with us and flupa, and to bring together the Brussels community of Design and User eXperience.
Goodies, goodies, goodies
We tend to think you can’t have a great event if your guests go home empty-handed. So, we decided to put our hands together and fill a whole bunch of EVO tote bags with great goodies.
Not only did it make for a fun afternoon at the office, but we also got to enjoy handing them out and observing the reactions of our guests as they discovered the contents of their totes.
Let us entertain you
To entertain our guests before the screening drinks and finger foods were served by a caterer and, in the spirit of EVO, we brought in an arcade game!
It was wonderful to see people’s smiling faces as they remembered their arcade game years with fondness and nostalgia. Even the catering staff joined in and played a few rounds!
Live Tweet madness
In coordination with flupa, we decided to live Tweet our thoughts during the documentary. We had anticipated a few Tweets here and there for our followers, and for those who couldn’t make it to the event, but it turned out to be an extremely quotable film! We ended up tweeting like maniacs and spamming everyone’s feeds with our Design Disruptor quotes and snaps.
“Design isn’t finished until somebody is using it.”
– Brenda Laurel
In a documentary full of great quotes, this one stood out, as a general groan of agreement resounded through the screening room when it appeared onscreen.
The documentary as a whole tried to convey the idea that design and art are not the same thing and that businesses must take into account the usability of their designs.
However, as a few guests pointed out after the screening, the interviews focused almost exclusively on the positions and jobs of the designers themselves. Unfortunately, the message got a little bit lost in the process.
You haven’t seen the last of us
We were very happy with our cooperation with flupa, and with the turnout. Design Disruptors certainly made us think and get into a few interesting arguments.
This was the first event sponsored by EVO and by the looks of it, it won’t be the last. You can definitely expect to enjoy many more EVO-events in the future!
After Effects is one of the great animation & composition tools used by web designers. Its goal is to help create and distribute animations and special effects of professional quality for television, cinema, web, etc. While it is very useful, the program can sometimes seem a bit difficult to use and even be quite scary to the newbies.
Most of the creative team members at EVO were self-learners. We watched a lot of tutorials, and use some tricks to get the result we were looking for. But that means that a lot of time was wasted on projects because of that.
However, thanks to a 3-day training with Thierry from AE Formations, we are now, Alexandra, Clara, Lorena, Marianne and Sacha, up-to-date and ready to make great things!
Because we want to share our knowledge and our experience with you, here is a little food for thoughts.

For this interview, we decided to change things a bit and meet with one of our interns instead of one of our team members. Indeed, @ EVO we value our interns as much as our employees and we really do care about the experience they have here and their thoughts on how things are going. This is why we invite you to take a look at Florian’s thoughts on what it is like to intern @ EVO!
We all come to a point, in our projects, where we need to re-center our work efforts on the user. We all know who our target audience is, but it is sometimes hard to keep it in mind when things go fast and you only have a limited amount of time before delivering something that works. However, our efforts will be useless if our project doesn’t coincide with our user’s needs. This is where personas can be very useful and help you focus your efforts on what’s relevant.
In this bog post, we will go over the different steps of creating your own personas, how to handle your interviews and how to use them. After reading this, you should be able to start creating personas for your projects.
Contrary to what lots of people might think, not everything related to web design is done using Photoshop anymore, and lots of programs are starting to arise. Designing in Photoshop isn’t as easy as it sounds, it can even sometimes be quite difficult. This is why, today we’re going to look at two alternatives, Sketch and Adobe XD, and compare them in terms of web and mobile design. Shall the battle between Sketch, Photoshop and Adobe XD begin!
